Empowering Young People Through Your Support

Why Your Donation Matters

Youth unemployment remains a critical issue in the UK, with the unemployment rate for young people aged 16 to 25 significantly higher than the national average. In fact, over 500,000 young people (around 13.5 percent) are unemployed, struggling to find jobs that match their skills and potential.

A major reason behind this crisis is the skills mismatch. Many young people do not possess the skills needed for the roles available in today’s fast-changing job market. Additionally, occupational immobility, the inability to move into different job sectors or roles due to a lack of training or skills, further restricts their opportunities.

Moreover, geographical immobility plays a large role in the issue. Many young people are unable to access opportunities in other regions due to costs, family obligations, or lack of housing, compounding the barriers they face.

Your donation will help us equip young people with the skills they need to thrive in modern societies. Rather than simply addressing skill shortages in specific industries, we aim to provide young people with career development opportunities, mentorship, and work experience that will enhance their employability and help them acquire the skills that are in demand across sectors.

By contributing, you are directly supporting the development of career-ready skills, allowing young people to build the confidence and experience they need to secure long-term, fulfilling employment, regardless of their background or location.

Together, we can empower the next generation to succeed and break the cycle of unemployment, setting them up for success in a rapidly evolving job market.

Addressing the Skills Gap for Young People

Empowering the Next Generation with Career-Ready Skills

In the past, young people had more opportunities to access part-time jobs while still studying at school or college. Retail positions and jobs in the service sector, often found in local shops or restaurants, were a common route for gaining early work experience. However, due to advances in technology and the shift toward digital services, many of these roles in traditional retail and manual sectors have disappeared. This can be seen as a form of creative destruction, where older industries are replaced by new, automated systems. As a result, today’s young people face a skills mismatch. The skills they once relied on are no longer in demand, and many are not equipped with the technical or digital skills that employers are now seeking.

The rise of occupational immobility occurs when young people are unable to move into different job sectors because they lack the relevant skills or training. This only makes the situation worse. As our society continues to evolve and adapt, particularly with the growing influence of artificial intelligence, young people need to develop new capabilities to thrive in a rapidly changing job market. At LSC, we are committed to equipping young people with the skills necessary to succeed in this new world of work, ensuring they can navigate the challenges ahead and adapt to future changes with confidence.

Why We Need Your Support

Today’s Youth, Tomorrow’s Workforce

At Learning and Skills Collaboration (LSC), a Community Interest Company (CIC), our mission is to bridge the gap between young people and meaningful career opportunities. As a CIC, our focus is on social impact, not profit, which means every contribution goes directly toward addressing the critical issue of youth unemployment and skills development.

We rely on donations, sponsorships, and partnerships with businesses to continue our work. These funds are vital for developing programs that provide young people with the skills they need to succeed. Your financial support helps us offer mentorship, work experience placements, and career development opportunities, all of which are essential to equipping young people with career-ready skills.

We also seek partnerships with firms to research and tackle the systemic barriers that prevent young people from accessing meaningful work. By collaborating with employers, we can ensure that the future workforce has the right skills and experiences that are in demand. Businesses need skilled workers to thrive, and young people need opportunities to develop and grow. Together, we can help them thrive, become productive members of society, and build the skills needed to succeed in the workforce.

The youth of today are the workforce of tomorrow, and with your support, we can ensure they are prepared for the challenges and opportunities of the future.
